El Think Tank Gold Mercury, en colaboración la sede inglesa de la iniciativa Sillicon Valley de Reino Unido, lanzan una nueva publicación gratuita y online acerca del impacto y el futuro del e-learning desde una doble perspectiva; por un lado, como generador de nueva línea de mercado, producción, conocimiento y crecimiento económico, y por otro lado, como solución universal para la alfabetización, la escolarización mundial y el acceso a contenidos educativos de calidad en los países donde el acceso a la educación postobligatorio o universitaria es aún una utopía. La publicación con forma de magazine hace un barrido por las principales plataformas que facilitan la interacción online con propósitos educativos que van desde redes sencillas como edmodo a MOOCs de las universidades más prestigiosas pasando por las iniciativas de análisi de big data y algoritmos de aprendizaje. En sus conclusiones, existe un momento trepidante en la generación de herramientas pero es necesario dotarlas de sentido y signifcado en cada institución y con cada objetivo para poder desarrollar al máximo todo su potencial. Tenemos las herramientas tecnológicas necesarias para revolucionar la educación con tecnología, ahora solo nos queda encontrar el proyecto y la realidad donde pueden cumplir su función con ejemplos croncretos de éxito.

The self-described “tinkerers” and “hacker-ninjas” behind a free web app they call “KA Lite” have an immodest goal: They aim to bring the revolution in online education to the 65 percent of the world that isn’t online.

Developed by a ragtag team of dedicated volunteers led by UC San Diego cognitive science doctoral candidate Jamie Alexandre, the app fords the digital divide by making available offline the online videos and exercises of the popular Khan Academy – which tallied 5.5 million unique users in January. The team also has a vision of expanding to include other educational content that’s freely available on the Internet commons. Project Gutenberg, perhaps, or Wikipedia.
